Leadership:
St Mary’s Cromford is in a United Benefice with Holy Trinity Matlock Bath. We are part of the newly formed Carsington Deanery in the Diocese of Derby.
We are on the historic Cromford Mill site, founded by Sir Richard Arkwright, and we enjoy excellent relations with Cromford Mill. Together we promote the whole site on Heritage Days, special events such as concerts and Harvest. A few years ago we started an Arkwright Christmas Carol Service which begins in the Mill Yard, from where we wassail to the church. Some dress in period costume and we welcome the Mill Manager and a Mill worker who read a lesson each.
St Mary’s Church is part of Cromford community and is especially involved with the excellent and thriving primary school on North Street and is involved in the community in different ways which include visiting, sharing our faith and working with the Community Centre.
Very importantly we enjoy good relations with Cromford Methodist Church on Water Lane, with monthly joint services.
St Mary’s is a small yet thriving village church with a Gospel to proclaim and willing to help anyone who needs it. Through this site our hope is that you might gain a flavour of the life of the church and a sense of the warmth of God’s love that has changed so many lives. Whatever your reason for visiting, more than anything else we want you to know about the life that can be found in Jesus Christ and how much of a difference this has made to us.
We want you to know about the power of God’s love through Jesus Christ, not because we want to make you like us, but because our experience of Christ is the greatest treasure we know. To keep this to ourselves, or allow such knowledge to be obscured by many other words which are of lesser importance, would be very wrong. So above all we trust that this site accurately reflects our lives together and bears witness to the wonderful gift of lives made new in Christ. We would be delighted to hear from you, if you think we may be able to serve you in some way.
Rev Pauline Key is a member of both congregations and has a Permission to Officiate License from the Bishop. We also have four Readers, David Green, Richard Maltby, Mike Pilling and Bernice Smith who lead services and preach as well as the usual involvement in church and community.
Our Churchwarden is Tom Bradley.
Our Parochial Church Council meets bimonthly and has ten members.
